Since the 5-15 pupils could not respond to the fierst part of the ant story for some technical reasons, then you all can post them here!

Why did the ants only want to attack Leiningen's plantation? Did he do anything to the ants tat made them attack his plantation
?

Actually, I think that they had already attacked other places. That's why the inspector came to warn him: he had seen other disastorous cases of how the ants worked.

Samuel: I think that the ants came to find food, as they were hungry. The may not really have come for a reason, as the workers did not ill treat the ants or bully them. I think a suitable title for this story is 'the hungry ants' or something like that

hey the ants are weird, they destroy because they must eat, but they kill themselves so that the others can eat.
Leiningen is so hao lian, thinking he can stop the ants. and the workers actually believe in him, like his DISCIPLES.
it's only water, i'm sure the ants can break through, he should have a better defence system, like grenades or some other kind of explosives.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT PART BUT I HAVE TO...

I didn't know that the ants would do anything-even sacrificing themselves- to do what complete their objective!
I wonder why ants have such a personality?

I've heard of flesh eating ants before, especially in Australia. I actually read about and saw a snake that had been stripped of its flesh by some fierce ants. There are strength in numbers.

What really astonishes me is the ant's ability to sacrifice itself for the good of the entire 'troop'. I know not many humans would actually do that- no that I know of NOW. This army-anty troop reminds me of the mindless dregs of some supreme commander- willing to sacrifice themselves and become martyrs. For example- Hitler's german troops who tortured the Jews, and Japan's troops who worshipped the emperor and the 'divine wind' fighters, the kamikaze who crashed their own planes into the enemy's ships or troops during world war two.

Why wasn't the Leiningen worried about hundreds of thousands of KILLER ants?
He has a brain (literally) but would his'brain' save him from death? I wonder......

Why did the ants want to attack the plantation? I think that the ants have already demolished other plantations and want to demolish this one. Anyway, why didn't Leiningen use pestiside and use a dam? Not all the ants will drown and if some get into the plantation,Leiningen will be dead! A suitable title for this story is. The savage ants

oh, and another fact that creeps me out: in Germany, there were groups for girls and boys which encouraged their members to report their parents if they did anything'wrong', like help the jewish people. Some, or if I would say, many actually reported their parents, who were sent to the labour camps.

Imagine the flesh-eating-ants climbing up on one another, then eat through the head of an unconcious person and into the brain, then they feel like eating an eyeball and a lung...then for snacks they attack the liver and the kidneys and the stomach with some human spare ribs...YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK.

A suitable title would be "Ants Attack"
What are "Dullards"?
Why do "critical situations first become crises when oxen or women get excited"?

Zachary: He has a PLANTATION. If he uses grenades or explosives, he will probably set fire to his whole plantation. Wood burns fast, you know... That would be just as good as waiting for the ants to come and eat them. Actually, I think that the water idea is quite okay, except that they should have made it wider, with more water too. After all, the remaining ants used the floating and dead ants for a bridge; the current should be stronger in order to drive them away.

Jin Kiat: Personally I don't like Leningen either; he is too proud of himself, the ending of the story is just like the saying 'Pride goes before a downfall'. But I think that these ants are strong enough to withstand bug spray. If they could not withstand it, then maybe the police wouldn't have warned Leningen to get out quick.
Actually, I kind of disagree your opinion that they were small ants. They are not small! They are about the size of your thumb, which I presume is not very small, and that is already considered large already for an ant!
I don't think that they attacked his plantation 'purposely'. I once read a book about this particular type of ants which sounded just like this kind, and they book said that they pracically killed everything in their path, no matter how big it is, fro a little ant to an elephant. Those ants can be quite fearsome, you know.

that's why we have to see how Leningen uses his brains to kill the overly-destructive ants. personally i feel that the ants just cant help but do what they do. but that still doesn't make them less destructive. ah well.

You mean, mel, that they cant help their 'killer instinct'... the need to eat something in order to survive

It's like blaming a lion/ tiger for killing a human/antelope [whatever]
